Food, music and and dressing to a theme are basic ingredients for any popular event.
The chili cook-off was a hit, espcially with taster-judges. A perennial Southwest & Western favorite, it is a new Sunflower event, making its debut (but hopefully not curtain call) at this year's sunflowering event. Being in NM, there were two categories: red & green. 6-7 entries (doubling last year's turn-out for Sunflower recipe contest) but an overwhelming multitude of tasters sampling and filling out judging cards.
Ten Cats Laughing, bluegrass, folk & self-described "twisted acoustic" duo from Los Lunas covered the music end. Guy and Lisa Dicharry use the name "Ten Cats Laughing" because Guy's francophone grandfather told the family that "Dicharry" means "Ten Laughing Cats." Close: Dix chats rient (approximate pronunciation, di-cha-ri) = 10 cats laugh or are laughing. Ten laughing cats = dix chats riants (dee sha ree-on)
