More alt.energy biz for Torrance County - Willard Wind Turbines - MountainView Journal, January 24, 2006
There's another new restaurant in the area, in Tajique, Gina Zamora's Mi Cabana, next to Ray's Grocery. Call 384-1141 or 385-5050. What with Bella Notte in Estancia and Coffee Cup Court in Mountainair, maybe it's time for another fine dining in Mountainair segment.
Addie Draper will be exhibiting her oils at prestigious Weems Gallery and has promised images for blog - also allowing it OK to remind her, so I will, She also asked that I post about Art, Etc jewelry making project and fund raiser. I'll remind her about those details too. Sounds like the jewelry making class that Spring Horton teaches for ASPIRE Family Learning Center and that Ruth Ballen took (didn't know she had family in the after-school program) last session took root indirectly at Art Etc.
Jude Mowris, Straw Mountain Studio, has been busy - mind-bendingly productive keeping up with the quilting challenge she told us about, quilt tops for Linus Project, other fiber fun, more published in Altered Couture - 10 pages in the February issue & one of her y-shirt dresses scheduled for the May issue (don't you wish now you'd bought one at the 2007 arts tour?) - and now getting paid for it.
Name the Campgrounds Competition. Got a catchy name for the Mountainair Campgrounds? Send it to Dennis Fulfer, Webaab@aol.com, who is spearheading the campaign/ competition for the Chamber of Commerce and will present finalists to the Town Council - all this a couple months down the road so you have time to think about names, test drive them for how they roll off the tongue... If you want to try them out here, be sure to submit under under your own name to protect your intellectual property...been a lot of plagiarism and appropriation of intellectual property going around lately - in the most unlikely places and by people who surely know better. More details to come.

Take your pick. Will there really be that many people in Mountainair dining out?

naming the campground:
"Acampada Manzano"
"Mountainair Bivouac"
Would really like to get away from the whole camp campground thingie. How about "Mountainair Cultural Center" ? That could cover a lot I think. (my dream wouild be to have each building painted a different and bright color, so that any event using only one building could advertise the event being in the green bldg, turquoise bldg, etc.)

I agree with you Jude. I think the name should reflect all the possible uses. Mountainair Cultural Center is very close. I think of some uses of it is as retail/office space. Maybe as a cultural center it'll evolve into another "Canyon Road" type place, except with a micro-town square. It has that great courtyard effect created by the buildings.
Mountainair Culture and Convention Center?
On another note, I spoke with Kevin Turner and he said that we have a rep from the wind farm tentatively scheduled to present at the March Chamber meeting.
There's 20 acres just east of town (Ish has it listed.) I can see a solar farm there that specifically feeds Mtnair. It would get some positive national PR and put us on the map as an inovative "green" community.

I think places, events and even individuals name themselves. When the right name - the one that fits - comes along, we'll recognize it. If we go with the one that does not fit, it just won't stick. Someone will start calling it something else and that will stick. No one will be able to resist using it.
Somehow "convention center" has a distinctly ROTFL feeling to it.
The name does not have to have "Mountainair" or "Center" in it. We know where it is and it's not the center of town.
I like Chris' idea of using Spanish. Something Spanglish could be just the ticket..And do more than pay the usual empty lip service to "cultural diversity," which is, after all DIVERSE and more complex than joining hands and singing coke commercials.
We could name the facility after for a pre-Mountainair names for the place - Monte Alto, for example.
Or think about past functions of the place - going back further than latest incarnations. Ot was, I am told, the main Chautauqua site.
