The Animal Rescue Site: Feed Shelter Animals With a Free Click Bulletin Posted by GreaterGood.org

The time has come to announce which shelters will receive a Christmas treat thanks to their supporters! With a record number of votes cast (over 5 million!) in the past three months , we're happy to announce the following winners of The Animal Rescue Site's $100,000 Shelter+ Challenge with Petfinder.com.

Rolling Dog Ranch Animal Sanctuary of Ovando, Montana will receive the grand prize of $20,000! The Denison City Pound of Denison, Iowa takes the runner up prize of $5,000, and The Oasis Sanctuary of Benson, Arizona wins the third place prize of $3,000. We'd also like to acknowledge our 14th and final Weekly Winner: Mylestone Equine Rescue of Pohatcong, New Jersey.

Congratulations to you all and to the 69 other shelters and rescue groups from every state in the U.S. as well as groups in Canada and Costa Rica that were awarded cash grants. Click here to see the complete list of winners. YES Mountainair is the New Mexico WINNER ~ 1st in the state.... Read more
Our friends at Petfinder.com join us as we applaud these wonderful organizations. Elizabeth Neuschatz, Executive Director of the Petfinder.com Foundation comments, "We know how hard they worked at encouraging people to go online and vote, and it paid off. The exciting part of this contest to us, however, is not just the prizes, but the way it engages the public in the process of helping their shelters."
During this challenge, employees of eligible rescue organizations were also encouraged to submit personal tales for our new "Most Touching Story" contest. We received 89 entries, and with so many heartwarming and amazing stories, had a very difficult time picking just two winners. But the two tales that moved us most came from the Greater Chicago Cavalier Rescue who told us Frankie's story, a paraplegic dog rescued from a puppy mill, and Cats Anonymous of Orton, Ontario, Canada with their tale of Winnie, a feral cat that was rehabilitated and then adopted. Both groups were awarded a $2,000 grant to continue their incredible work.

We're not about to let this spirit of giving end here. We're gearing up to hold another Shelter+ Challenge in early 2010. Your local shelters and rescues will need your votes, so keep an eye on your inbox for details.

Thank you for voting and for all your efforts on behalf of rescued animals!

Keep clicking every day to help not just rescued animals but all the other sites in the Greater Good Network as well!
