Opportunities for Artists, Designers, Musicians, Entertainers

from Creative Albuquerque ("fabulous" edited out of message on general principles)

... upcoming opportunities for artists, designers, musicians and entertainers. Coincidentally, each of the following requires an expression of interest by next Monday, October 4.
  • Design the Creative Bravos Award. For now, we just need you to indicate that you want to be considered. A little future perk? The selected artist/designer will receive $1,000!
  • Perform on the Civic Plaza Stage. Bernalillo County is looking for musicians and entertainers to perform during Taste of New Mexico. Those chosen to participate will receive stipends and (of course) the privilege of playing on the Plaza.
  • Sell your artwork at Taste of New Mexico. Bernalillo County is also hosting an Artists' Tent during the Taste festivities. In support of County-artists-as-entrepreneurs, there is no fee to participate.
If you don't presently receive our weekly e-newsletter, Creativity Matters, in which many of these opportunities (among other useful things) are featured, you can sign up on our website.

20 Ways to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

from National Geographic's Intelligent Travel blog

20 Ways to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month
National Hispanic Heritage Month kicked off Wednesday, September 15, with the commemoration of the independence of five Central American nations (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua). The celebrations continue with the marking of Mexico's Bicentennial this week and Chile's today. Special events, art exhibits, and lively fiestas are scheduled throughout the month around the country. Here's a glimpse of upcoming events in six major U.S. cities that celebrate the peoples, history, culture, and contributions of the U.S.'s 48.4 million Hispanics.

thoughts on calendars and events briefly noted in passing

Mayan Calendar

Fall calendars fill up, events large and small fill up all the fair weather time available ... summer heat is past and winter cold yet to arrive. Just keeping calendars updated gets hectic. Local, county and community interest events go on the online Mountainair Community Calendar ~ also available here as well as on Mountainair Announcements, Town of MountainairChamber and Mountainair Net pages.

State Fair and Balloon Fiesta aren't local but are on the community calendar because they are events that define the community. Hispanic Heritage Month should go on it for the same reason. Globalquerque, Renaissance Faire and a multitude of literary events go on either the Arts & Letters calendar (underway but not yet ready for prime time) or the Poets & Writers Calendar. So why am I telling you all this? To remind you to check the calendars, subscribe to an rss feed for updates in your reader or mailbox. So I don't hear any more, "but I didn't know about it. Nobody told me," whinging.

ongoing.... GED returns to Mountainair via Torrance County Distance Education Program (Open House today at Dr Saul Community Center) as noted on Community and other Calendars, Renaissance FairNational Hispanic Heritage MonthNew Mexico State Fair. Way more to come on GED, Hispanic Heritage month (because I love collecting graphics from across Hispanidad) and probably the State Fair.
