March Fog Light: NM FOG Newsletter

Yes, we have pictures and updates on arts council doing, even some for farmers market, community garden, local businesses ~ all forthcoming in due time. Plus a post on blog remodeling lite: new features (more NM arts, res publica or civic mindedness, around the web locally), adding pages, asking for input to write a FAQ.

Alas, there is nothing to share on either town council meeting or "elections" (wink, wink, nudge, nudge and schedule a post embedding video clip of Monty Python's Spanish Inquisition). In the consistent absence of news and timely updates, perhaps the time to blog not cabbages and kings but those information gaps.

Until then, the New Mexico Foundation for Open Government, info@nmfog.org, newsletter

Diane Dimond to keynote Dixon Luncheon Oct. 3
The annual luncheon to honor the William S. Dixon First Amendment Freedom Award Recipients will be held Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Our keynote speaker will be Diane Dimond, a nationally syndicated weekly newspaper columnist and a special correspondent for Newsweek/TheDailyBeast.com where she has reported on some of the day's most headline-grabbing crime-related stories.
As you know, it is the biggest fundraiser for FOG every year and last year's event featuring Sam Donaldson was the most successful event for FOG to date. Thanks to Board Secretary Kent Walz for asking Dimond to come and thanks to our fundraising committee chair Kyla Thompson for getting this thing off the ground so early!

Gwyneth Doland headshot Good news on two grants!
We found out this week that we've been approved for a grant from The McCune Charitable Foundation. This is the first time the Santa Fe-based group has funded FOG, so we hope this is the beginning of a long relationship.

We've also been approved for a $10,000 sustainability grant from the National Freedom of Information Coalition at the Missouri School of Journalism. That grant requires us to get matching funds through diversifying our revenue stream, something we're working on right now as we put together an upcoming Continuing Legal Education program on public records and open meetings. We'll have more on that soon.
Upcoming board meetings coincide with NMBA, NMPA conventions
Gwyneth Doland headshotJoin the board of directors for our next meeting, scheduled for Friday, June 8 from 3-5 p.m. That's the weekend of the New Mexico Broadcasters Association's annual convention, so we hope to see some of you who are coming to Albuquerque for it.

Our fall meeting, set for Friday, Oct. 26 from 3-5 p.m. is also the same weekend as the New Mexico Press Association conference. Both meetings will be held in the Willard Board Room at the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce.
Executive Director Transition Fund a success
Thanks to Fundraising Chair Kyla Thomspon and the board members (listed below) who very generously donated a total of nearly $4,000 to help NMFOG start the year off right! There's still time for you to help out! Click here to donate to the fund.

New ED on the job
The FOG board met at the Albuquerque Journal in late February to say goodbye to fearless leader Sarah Welsh and welcome new Executive Director Gwyneth Doland. It was a bittersweet evening, but we wish Sarah the best of luck in her travels, in grad school and--we all hope--as a future member of the Foreign Service!

Meanwhile, Gwyneth is at your service. Feel free to call (505) 764-3750 or e-mail gwyneth@nmfog.org.
