New Mexico Museum of Art Launches Centennial Exhibit May 11

"It's About Time: 14,000 Years of Art in New Mexico" opens on Friday, May 11th at 5pm in downtown Santa Fe. This show, sponsored by the New Mexico Humanities Council as a Centennial project, presents an unbroken history of Native American, Hispanic and European American art in New Mexico.
Beginning with art from the Clovis Culture, the exhibition includes works from Ancestral Pueblo, Spanish Colonial, American Colonial, Early Statehood, and Contemporary periods. The diverse selection of work presents retablos and bultos, weavings, Pueblo pottery, paintings, sculptures. Visitors will enjoy works by such artists as Gustave Baumann, TC Cannon, Rick Dillingham, "Buck" Dunton, Robert Henri, Luis Jiménez, Raymond Jonson, José Dolores López, Agnes Martin, Maria Martinez, Bruce Nauman, and Georgia O'Keeffe. As part of the exhibition, the Museum of New Mexico Press is publishing "New Mexico Art Through Time," a hardcover catalog with 240 full-color reproductions.

New Mexico Statehood History Conference boasts record attendance

Congratulations to the Historical Society of New Mexico on a successful New Mexico Statehood History Conference. Held last week in Santa Fe, more than 600 scholars, historians and educators from New Mexico and beyond were treated to special lectures as well as top-notch New Mexico hospitality and entertainment. Next year's Conference will be in Las Cruces – you won't want to miss it!

- May 12th. End of the Trail: Centennial Cattle Drive Round-Up Festival
Help celebrate the finale of one of New Mexico's Centennial events. The End of the Trail: Cattle Drive Round-Up Festival will be held at the Eddy County Sheriff's Posse Arena on Saturday, May 12, 2012.
The 1912 re-enactment of a cattle drive featuring 100 head of longhorn cattle bearing the special New Mexico Centennial brand will end their journey in Carlsbad where the cattle will be auctioned off during the festivities. Attractions at the festival include vendors, reenactors, music, children's area, junior rodeo and lots of food! The festival will begin Saturday morning while the cattle will arrive around 2pm. - May 12th. Mosquero Centennial Day Celebration
Join Harding County in celebrating the New Mexico Centennial at Mosquero!
Musical entertainment will be provided by the Flying J. Wranglers who will perform at 12 noon and 3pm. Festivities will include a "Porker Run", vendors, games and the debut of the new firetruck, plus meet some of the notorious Outlaws of New Mexico. - Centennial Events Featured on Local Televsion Program "Issues & Answers"
Diane Kinderwater's television talk show, Issues & Answers, on KCHF, Channel 11 will feature upcoming Centennial projects and events taking place statewide. The program has also featured a series of shows promoting Centennial projects at the NM Department of Tourism and the Palace of the Governors/State History Museum.
Incoming Centennial Director Ona Johnson appears on the show, which will air on Thursday, May 10, at 4:30pm; Saturday, May 12, at 11am; Monday, May 21, at 6pm; Friday, May 25, at 10am and on Sunday, May 27, at 7:30pm.
