…Jerry Melargno, local 50+ Games coordinator and occasional (when reminded) correspondent writes, apparently forgetting that I asked for pictures from Saturday's event, not more docs.
The Kickoff event was a lot of fun and the turn out was great. I'm hoping exceed the record number of participants (40) we had last year in all the events combined. We have our second event, 8-ball pool, tomorrow at the Mountainair Senior Center. Next week we'll be holding our shuffleboard tournament in the brand new game room addition to the Mtair Senior Center. Below is a brief summary of Saturday's Kickoff event; you can check the complete results online here. Results have been sent to the Telegraph and Independent. KXNM 88.7 taped an interview that was to run Monday (no broadcast time included in Jerry's report)

Seniors Begin Their Games
The Kickoff Event for the Torrance County 50+ Games was held in the Estancia HS Auxiliary Gym on Saturday, March 4. A total of 19 seniors participated in 5 different events, the youngest (54) was Murt Sullivan, Mountainair, and the oldest competitor, age 81, was Bobby Chavez, Willard. Eight women and eight men competed in the feature event, Washers (Huachas). Kathy Segura, Moriarty, won the women's tournament. Richard Medina, Mountainair, was the men's champion. Special thanks to the Willard Cantina for donating gift certificates to the two winners.
In other events, Diane Privette, Mountainair, and Sammy Chavez, Estancia, had the high scores in the Soccer Accuracy Kick while in Frisbee Accuracy Katy Grantham, Moriarty, tied with Nadine Luna, Mountainair, for high women's score and Murt Sullivan proved to be most accurate among the men. The two top scorers in the basketball free throw event were Kathy Segura and Earl Santillanes, Edgewood, and in the three-point shot competition, Virginia Valdez, Mountainair, topped the women while Earl Santillanes and Sammy Chavez tied for top score among the men.
Weather conditions forced postponement of the two other recreational events, Softball Distance Throw and Frisbee Distance Toss. These events will be held held in conjunction with track and field at the ESH track on April 20.
All the 50+ Games docs, including forms, that you need and quite likely more than you really want...and we'll be adding more as they come our way, although we may skip links unless included by correspondents.
